It’s really hard to pick out a Christmas present for someone into SBCs. Whatever you pick, they either don’t need it, can’t use it, already have it, or, if you’re really lucky, you get something they want.

Fortunately, if you know someone in your life who wants to get into tinkering with the Raspberry Pi but they’re not sure where to start, the foundation has released the perfect gift. The official Raspberry Pi Beginner’s Guide has just released its sixth edition, and you can grab it right now.

Over on the Raspberry Pi blog, the foundation reveals the release of the sixth edition of the Raspberry Pi Beginner’s Guide. Because it’s written by the same group that made the hardware, there’s really no better way to get started with the hardware and learn how to get everything up and running.

Here’s how the foundation describes its new edition:

The book begins with a guided tour of Raspberry Pi hardware, covering the features and capabilities of the latest Raspberry Pi computers. After that, you’ll learn how to set up your Raspberry Pi and prepare it for its first boot. You’ll also get to know the desktop environment and find out how to install software (including the must-play games from Code the Classics Volume I and Volume II). And that’s just the first three chapters, which feature all-new full-colour images of Raspberry Pi 500+ and Raspberry Pi OS Trixie.

While people in the UK can order the book right now, it seems that things will take a little longer for people in the US to grab it. Over on the Amazon US page, it says it’ll be available on January 6th at the time of writing. Fortunately, there is a Kindle version available right now, and you can get the ebook from the Raspberry Pi store for free if you’re a contributor.

That’s not to say that the Raspberry Pi guide is the only way to learn about this handy hardware. We at XDA love our Pis, and we’ve spent a lot of time talking about them. If you know someone in your life who needs some inspiration to get tinkering, check out these simple Raspberry Pi projects for beginners, our beginner’s guide to programming your Raspberry Pi, and these things nobody tells you before your first Raspberry Pi project.
